Conference will discuss how Brexit affects bridging finance

The theme of the Association of Short Term Lenders (ASTL) annual conference on September 14th 2017 is “Brexit and Bridging”. It will focus on how leaving the European Union will affect the property market and bridging finance. The two main speakers at this London conference are Lorna O’Brian from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Peter Andrews from the Bank of England. Attendees at the conference will include bridging loan firms, brokers, other interested parties. Lorna O’Brian of the FCA has 20 years expertise in mortgage lending and is a technical specialist on the FCA mortgage team. The FCA regulates the mortgage and bridging financial sectors. She will be able to explain the FCA’s approach to short term lending. Peter Andrews from the Bank of England will provide a broad look at the British economy and how it may be affected by Brexit. The Chief Executive of the ASTL, Benson Hersch said that the conference:

“brings together leading decision makers and commentators to address the situation presented by Brexit, as well as to provide insight into the current state of the economy, the housing market, and the future for lending and finance.”

He added that leaving the EU was one of the biggest recent political events. Now that Article 50 has been invoked, he said that it is crucial for short term lenders to come together and take a proactive approach to assessing the impact and challenges that will arise as a result of leaving the EU.
